“With the construction project last year, we had the perfect opportunity to make some meaningful choices regarding sustainability and its impact on the environment.”
RENEWABLE ENERGY
One of the most visible choices we have made, is to maximize the use of solar panels. Fuel oil will no longer be the main heating resource. Instead, we will use heat pumps that are mainly driven by natural resources such as energy from solar panels. This means that we can reduce our CO2 emission with a minimum of ca. 22.000 kg on an annual basis.
Other, less visible choices have been made as well. To name a few, the insulation factor of our new office will improve with factor 10 due to the use of the most recent technologies and construction materials, the elevator in the building is energy neutral due to its energy recuperation during its movement in both directions, office lights work with sensors so they will only burn when necessary, …
With these big and small decisions we want to take our responsibility as a company and contribute to the global mission of reducing greenhouse gasses and global warming. We are committed to continuously make the right decisions for our environment and our world.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Production waste that cannot be reused or reworked in our internal manufacturing process, represents a large cost. A cost not only for our company, but also for the environment. Thus we have 2 very good reasons to never stop investigating improvements and efficiency gains in our production process in order to have less waste throughout all steps of the process.
In 2017, we introduced several small changes in our production process, leading us to a reduction of waste of more than 5 % compared to last year despite increased production volumes.
Furthermore, our effective waste volumes are recycled by specialized companies and re-used in the production cycle of other manufacturing entities. However, we are aware that there is still a long way to go in order to obtain optimal waste management and will continue to invest in small and large optimizations.
